The Belfry of St. Mary’s Cathedral Saginaw MI
Everyday at noon if you are in the Cathedral District on Saginaw’s eastside, you will hear the bells ringing at St.Mary’s Cathedral. The bells were cast by Stucksted & Brothers of St. Louis MO. This is what is going on up inside the belfry.
Special thanks to Tim Muter for providing access to the tower
Beautiful pictures! You are definitely more brave than I – just seeing that extension ladder made me cringe! 🙂
Thanks Erin! Yes, It is a dizzing height and to think when the cathedral was built in 1901 there wasn’t the modern construction equipment available today

Magnificent pictures! Thank you, Tim! Your work shows that you have a very deep appreciation for the Cathedral of this great diocese. You are pretty brave too!
Tim did a great job getting me up into the cathedral stafely to take these photos. It is a journey not for the faint of heart! A staircase, and two very tall steep ladders!

Stunning. A few make me think of Ken Follett’s “Pillars of the Earth.”
my father sang in the men’s choir on Sunday morning 9:15 Mass.He always made us sit up there. (probably so we couldn’t sneak out!) I hated it up there…way too creepy!
What a great story Janet! Thanks for sharing
excellent job on the pictures!! I don’ t so much mind the “Bats in the Belfry” aspect, as the looks of the long, steep ladder. Pretty scary for someone who does not like to go beyond the second step on the ladder.
Thanks Tom! I didn’t see any bats up in the bells, but certainly plenty off steps.
