Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra Librarian Don Belcher
Saturday night, the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra will kick off the 2014-2015 concert season with a performance titled “With Malice Toward None…Celebrating Lincoln”, but work on putting the performance together started well before Saturday with help from Don Belcher, the SBSO librarian. As the librarian, Belcher organizes all the music for the musicians. The process of finding and acquiring the works through purchase or rental starts 10 weeks before the musicians go on stage. In his role, Belcher is the man behind the music; making sure copies of the music are distributed to each musician well in advance to allow adequate practice time. Before rehearsals and performances, he is the one to put the music on the stands. “Each piece of music goes through my hands,” Belcher says. For Belcher, Christmas is right around the corner.
In addition to his work with the SBSO, Belcher also serves as the librarian for the Saginaw Bay Youth Orchestra and is musician in his own right, playing the trumpet and DJing for events including special parties and weddings.

Thor!!!
Great job.
Thanks Paul! It is amazing all the pieces that need to come together to make the SBSO work.
As a librarian and a musician, I love this.
Hi Erin! Thanks for checking it out (pun intended)! It certainly is a different kind of library.

I love these photos and it’s so nice to draw attention to the behind the scenes people that make up our fabulous orchestra and without whom our beautiful music would not happen! Thank-you, Thor.
Thank you Karen. It really takes a community of support on and off stage to have such an amazing orchestra! There is a part everyone can play to help make our city great.
